Mistress Red House Painters Key = bB, Capo 3, play in G. 8 Beat Most people probably already know this song is capoed at 3, playing the G progression: G->C9->G->C9, then in Chorus play D->C9->G. However according to my tabbing this is not exactly correct... (though it sounds close enough). I will outline the import detail out there: First the intro: it's the distortion rhythm guitar. Volume raising gradually. I won't write out the rhythm, it's so hard to write it out in tab. Have a listen at the CD or figure out yourself. Gmaj7: Intro for 4 measures. Drum starts at the end of 4 measures. 2---------------|2---------------|2---------------|2---------------|---------------- 0---------------|0---------------|0---------------|0---------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- 2---------------|2---------------|2---------------|2---------------|---------------- 3---------------|3---------------|3---------------|3---------------|---------------- ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Riff1: I will write out the chord on the top. Rhythm guitar shall play the chord, as well as the notes I write out. For example in the first measure, it means when the 4th beat, we shall be transit G to Gmaj7 by playing the #F on E string. Rhythm Guitar 1: That's the distortion guitar in the intro. Be sure to play the notes I write out together with the chord: they are melody notes. If you feel it's too hard, let another slightly overdriven guitar plays these notes. Play 8 measures and vocal starts. Rhythm guitar 2 plays for 1 measure or so then fades out. Rhythm guitar1 and bass just keep playing the same thing until riff2. (Riff1 ends at "Bruise internally, eternally".) Riff2: Rhythm Guitar 1: When playing D, C, there's no extra notes to play. On G, play the notes below as well. D C G ----------------|----------------|3-----22---------|3-----2---------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-------------3---|------------3---|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|3----------------|3---------------|---------------- ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Rhythm Guitar: mute for D and C, or just sweep through the string. Play same as riff 1 on G. ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Bass: ----------------|----------------|-----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|------77---------|------7---------|---------------- 8-----8-----8---|6-----6-----6-5-|----------------|----------------|---------------- ----------------|----------------|6------------8---|6-----------8---|---------------- ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ Riff 2 plays till the end. That's so much about it. Not much change within each riff. Simple but sweet. I am not sure how many guitars are out there (at least 2). If you are covering this song, play that in the way you feel comfortable. I think adding a little keyboard in it will sound great too. Let me know if you have any question or suggestion of my tab. phageous@yahooo.com 05/02/2002 From: Andrew Scott Subject: Mistress tab Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 09:55:41 +-1300 Sorry Marcus, I'm sure you know how the mind can wander in it's less productive moments :) Here's 'Mistress' as well, all tidied up for general consumption. Which I think finally gets rid of all the natty tabs with my name next to them. That way you can get the treble notes that you hear in the piano version by playing around a little on the high E string. Let me know if you agree.
