Just think of "Landslide" or "Dust In the Wind". For the entire song, only two left-hand fingers touch the fretboard. These will be, for most players, the pointer finger on the sixth (D) string and the ring-finger on the second (B) string. In this arrangement, the finger on the second (B) string is "anchored" to the fret board for the entire song, meaning that it does not leave the string at any point, and you slide the finger up and down the string as you play. The pointer-finger on the sixth (D) string leaves the string only to play the open D notes in the 4th bar. Thus, most of the left-hand work for this song is actually in the wrist and elbow, and not the fingers. Right hand: The thumb of the right hand does double-duty in "Cruiser": The notes on the low sixth (D) string (A, G, D, on the 7th, 5th and open frets, respectively) set the song's rhythm, but the thumb also plays the open D on the 4th string. The right ring-finger plays the open, droning E on the first string (which should be played brightly and accented--using the fingernail, if possible--throughout the song). The right middle-finger plays the shifting notes on the 2nd (B) string, and the right pointer plays the open 3rd string (F#). Strangely, having seen Mark play live, I noticed that he often uses ONLY his right-hand thumb and pointer in some finger-style arrangements, which, to me, seems incredibly laborious, and which I know I could never duplicate. As for "Crusier", I don't know how Mark himself plays it, but you can recreate it using the four right-hand fingers, as described above. The picking pattern is a little bit unusual in my opinion. It's hard to explain how, but you just have to get used to the right-hand timing of the treble notes. I play quite a bit of finger-style guitar, but still had to stay up all of last night trying to figure it out and get used to it. Now, however, as with many finger-style songs, I've gotten used to the pattern and can play the song without really thinking about it, and can even carry on a conversation, somewhat, while playing it. If you have trouble getting used to the pattern, I suggest playing it without the little couplets of open notes on the third (F#) and fourth (D) strings; this will help you get a feel for the timing/rhythm and is less work for your right hand thumb. Once this become second nature, you can basically learn the song all over again, now incorporating the open notes, but this time you'll do so having a good feel for the timing. In any case, with the corrections mentioned above, I can, to paraphrase Hatori Hanzo from "Kill Bill", say without ego that this tablature is now perfectly accurate. Note: Because of the capo on the second fret, all of the sounded notes are actually a whole-tone (i.e., full step) higher than written; the capo-less notes are written to make the text less confusing. Obviously, you are welcome to play the song with the capo on any fret. The standard tuning makes the actual bass notes (that is, the E and A strings; the notes played on the 4 higher strings are perfectly accurate, I think) heard in the song impossible to play (unless, of course, you have 6 to 8 fingers on your left hand) so I had to simplify. But this still sounds very good and an awful lot like the real version. Sorry about all the parentheses. I'm an idiot, you see.
